What is home care?

Home care is a service that aims to bridge the gap between nursing and care. As well as practical help around the home and personal assistance, it provides vulnerable people with companionship, and peace of mind for their family who may worry about them.

Why consider a career in care?

Adult social care is one of the few sectors where long-term career opportunities are on the rise. It’s estimated there are around 1.49 million people working in the industry, with an expected 580,000 new jobs being created by 2035.

Along with extensive employment prospects, promotion and progression opportunities, a career in home care also offers job security.

Practicalities aside, making a difference to one person’s life, let alone several, can feel incredibly rewarding. What’s more, if you’re looking for care jobs in Blackburn, the service we provide at Choice Care is flexible, which means your hours can be matched to suit your availability and no two days are ever the same.As you get to know the people you visit regularly, you’ll have the chance to build rich and fulfilling relationships with the people you care for.

At Choice Care, we pride ourselves on really getting to know the people we support; from how they take their tea or coffee to listening to their treasured memories and sharing favourite past times. These personal touches really make a big difference to people’s lives.

What does the role entail?

Our service covers a variety of different kinds of practical care including household chores such as cooking, cleaning, washing and shopping, as well as personal care such as continence care, showering and medication support.

Visits are always tailored to suit each individual’s needs and likes, while allowing them greater levels of independence. Some lighter jobs could include watering the garden, feeding the birds, giving a footbath or simply providing companionship.

Our care is also designed to provide support in more specialist areas including dementia care, people with life-limiting illnesses and complex care needs. Our staff receive specialist training to support a wide range of conditions and requirements.

What you can expect if you join our team

You don’t need any previous experience or qualifications to join our team, just a willingness to learn and develop the skills needed to deliver high-quality, compassionate care and a desire to make a difference.

When you start, you will receive induction training across a variety of subject areas. You will then complete a number of shifts with a supervisor to get used to following care plans and delivering the required level of care.

As a new recruit you will also be working on achieving your diploma/NVQ qualification in care, which takes between 6 and 9 months to complete.
